Research
We support evidence-based inquiry that deepens understanding of mental health across diverse medical and social contexts—promoting informed, compassionate care.
The Mind Safety Institute supports research that deepens understanding of how mental health is influenced by medical procedures, social identity, and personal safety. Our goal is to promote informed, ethical, and inclusive care by exploring the lived experiences behind the data—always grounded in trauma-informed values and professional responsibility.

Gastric Bypass Mental Health Impact
This study examines the emotional and psychological experiences of individuals following bariatric surgery. While the physical outcomes of gastric bypass are widely known, less attention has been given to the mental health changes that may accompany dramatic weight loss. Our research explores shifts in body image, identity, interpersonal relationships, and emotional regulation—both short-term and long-term. By centering the voices of participants, we aim to help healthcare providers deliver more compassionate, trauma-informed care before and after surgery.
